Project Timeline At-A-Glance
  • The weeks leading up to the 21st, Scioto
    County Joint Vocational School will lay the
    brick walkway.

  • Tim Doyle Landscaping will construct the
    waterfall.

  • Community volunteers will erect the
    gazebo.

April 21st

  • A delegation of students and staff from
    Kent State University will arrive April 21st.

  • Youth will arrive at 4pm.  The first day of
    the project will be an educational
    introduction. The youth will be given
    lessons on how to care for the plants
    before beginning the gardening the next
    day.

April 22nd


  • The bulk of the project will take place on
    the 22nd. The youth will get their hands
    dirty gardening  and will spend time
    documenting the project by making  photo
    journals.

  • To give the youth a fun an educational
    break from gardening they will also spend
    time with an African drum ensemble.

April 23rd

  • The final day will be a peaceful
    celebration of song and dance open to the
    community of Portsmouth . Both local and
    traveling performers will make a peaceful
    noise in the park. The peace pole will be
    planted, and dedicated refreshments will
    be served, and a spirit of fellowship will be
    encouraged.

Project Sustainability and Future

  • Establishing a Board of Directors and
    Executive Officers for the management of
    the park as well as making the project
    eligible for the hotel-motel tax grant next
    year

  • Maintaining a working relationship with
    YSA and renewing our grant partnership
    each year

  • Fostering a sense of ownership of the
    park in the community to encourage use
    and upkeep

  • Promoting the park for tourism
